    Lansing ----- MSU engineering students and local middle school students are ready to knock you down with an impressive feat of math, physics, engineering and history - or at least some really big walls. On May 8, 2010, at the Marshall Street Armory, student teams will be displaying the muscle of their eight foot long medieval machines, which they have been creating over the past eight weeks, by flinging projectiles at a castle wall to knock it down.

    Lansing ----- Motion Marketing & Media (M3) will receive four Pinnacle Awards at the 2010 PACE Awards ceremony hosted by the Central Michigan Public Relations Society of America (CMPRSA) on Wednesday, April 28, at 11:30 a.m. at the Radisson Hotel. Each year, the CMPRSA PACE Awards recognize the outstanding work produced by our region in the field of public relations. The Pinnacle Awards are considered the highest honor of each category, and are awarded based on research, implementation and measurable results of each PR tactic or campaign.
  • Revitalization Begins with a Nod to Lansing's HistoryApril 14, 2010
    Lansing ----- In remembrance of the much loved "old" City Market, elements of the building's structure will be incorporated into other buildings in the future. Many of the materials will be recycled as the building is demolished today, the first step toward Gillespie Group's Marketplace. "The old City Market building has played a key role in the shaping of the Lansing community, and we want to make sure it is recognized and remembered. The Market's door sets will be proudly displayed as part of Marketplace's design," said Pat Gillespie, president of Gillespie Group.
  • CSO and Beautification ProjectsApril 9, 2010
    Lansing ----- The Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Control Program's environmental and beautification efforts continue with the start of construction on South Washington Avenue and the screetscape on Grand Avenue beginning next week. Project area 034B (bounded by West Barnes Avenue, South Washington Avenue, Holmes Road and South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) is beginning construction on Monday, April 12. The area between Mt. Hope Road and Holmes Road will receive approximately $5 million in upgrades that include new water mains, sanitary and storm sewer lines as well as road improvements.

    Lansing ----- The historical Marshall Street Armory Building could soon offer a new kind of service to the Lansing community if the vision of local developer Gillespie Group acquires the approvals necessary for the project. "This beautiful building has been left empty for too long. This renovation will give the Armory Building a new life and reinvigorate the pride in the history of those who have served their country there," said Pat Gillespie, founder and president of Gillespie Group.

    LANSING ----- Philanthropic guests and employees of Douglas J worked together with massages, haircuts, blowouts and dress down days to raise funds to support Haiti. The East Lansing-based company raised relief funds for Haiti throughout the month of February by encouraging guests to make donations at checkout and also by offering special opportunities to its employees, such as the ability to donate for the ability to wear jeans for a day. Together, the many Mid-Michigan branches of Douglas J Salons, eXchanges and Aveda Institutes raised $3,234.78. The donations went to UNICEF.

    LANSING ----- Douglas J Aveda Institute proudly puts the spotlight on nine of its students who made the cut — and the makeup — for award-winning looks in the third annual 2009 Edwin Neill II Full Potential Award. The Aveda Institute network is always pushing its cosmetology and esthiology students to challenge themselves and reach their full potential. It is with this in mind that the Aveda Institutes created the Edwin Neill II Full Potential Award. This prestigious award was created in 2006 in memory of Edwin Neill II, a distributor and long-time mentor for the Aveda Institutes. The award is presented to one team of three students nationally.
