May 18, 2010

Lansing ----- The Michigan Nonprofit Association has signed a 15 year agreement with Gillespie Group to move its headquarters to the Marshall Street Armory Building upon its completion. The Armory Building will undergo a full historic renovation and become a shared headquarters for local nonprofit organizations.

"The Michigan Nonprofit Association is proud to be a part of this revolutionary new approach to nonprofit collaboration. We can't wait to embark on this endeavor with Gillespie Group and the other nonprofit organizations that will surely join us in taking advantage of this fresh approach to resource sharing," said Kyle Caldwell, president and CEO of the Michigan Nonprofit Association.

Gillespie Group's plan for the Armory Building, based on the concept of efficient collaboration between organizations, takes a revolutionary approach to organizing nonprofit headquarters. The building will allow organizations to share resources such as a reception area, conference rooms, copying room and more. By teaming up with shared resources, participating nonprofits will benefit from better facilities, greater energy efficiency and the positive synergy that comes with a shared space.

"Lansing's outstanding nonprofit organizations deserve a headquarters that will allow them to be their very best. The Armory Building's design for sharing resources will help them do just that, empowering them to put even more of their efforts back into the amazing work they do for our community," said Pat Gillespie, president of Gillespie Group.

Gillespie Group's plan for the Marshal Street Armory Building will give it a full historical renovation to prepare it to house the headquarters of several nonprofit organizations. Gillespie Group is actively pursuing opportunities for additional incentives necessary to renovate the building and the site in order to bring the plans to fruition.

The Armory Building's history is rich. It was built in 1924 and became the facility for the 1st Battalion 119th Field Artillery. U.S. military personnel gathered at this installation and received the necessary training to defend our country. The Armory was deemed to have sufficient structural integrity to be refuge for the community from natural disasters.
