#MeetMichigan with @m3_group finds positive attitudes and social media shift in business
July 12, 2011
Detroit ----- When #MeetMichigan with @m3_group kicked off on Tuesday, June 28 they had one mission: to promote positivity in the state through the use of social media. The crew spent 11 days tweeting from all 83 counties in Michigan and what they found was more than just a positive spirit.
M3's intrepid Special PRops (short for PR opportunities) crew, comprised of four born-and-bred Michiganders, visited businesses, restaurants, community events and tourist spots, met with local community, political and business leaders in an effort to understand what the business climate really looks like in our great mitten state.
What they found was better than they had expected. Through the use of social media #MeetMichigan was able to connect with Michigan businesses, great and small. From the teeniest momand- pop diner in Chatham, to big businesses headquartered in Michigan like Ice Mountain Water and La-Z-Boy.
"We discovered the businesses who are using social media as a channel to connect with customers generally have a more positive outlook on Michigan’s economy," said Julie Becker, member of the Special PRops team and ideation specialist at Motion Marketing & Media (M3). "They feel like their business has a voice, and they can connect with customers traditional media may not reach."
The team also found that Michigan businesses and consumers place a great deal of value on buying locally, eating at locally sourced restaurants and don't mind a higher price tag to know they're investing in their community. The "local" trend is not only popular in urban areas, it's really apparent across the state.
Though #MeetMichigan saw areas that fared better than others during our economic challenges, M3 was inspired by the positive attitude Michiganders have about turning our economy around.
