Granger Honored with First-Ever DeWitt Township Outstanding Corporate Citizen Award
December 14, 2011
Lansing ----- The DeWitt Charter Township board awarded Granger the Township's first-ever Outstanding Corporate Citizen award on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2011 at DeWitt Township Hall.
The Outstanding Corporate Citizen award recognizes Granger for its positive contributions to the public. The local business was honored for being a "valued citizen" within the community and for giving back to residents, as well as for its ongoing commitment to providing safe, renewable and environmentally responsible trash collection and energy services.
"We have benefitted so much from the commitment and contributions of Granger to the community," said DeWitt Township Clerk Diane Mosier, "The board wanted to recognize their outstanding efforts, and just imagine our community if Granger set a standard for other businesses to follow."
Rod Taylor, DeWitt Township Manager, agreed. "Many companies operate in our community, but not all find a way to integrate. Granger is not only part of the community; they create jobs, offer a necessary commodity and provide a larger benefit to our residents."
Granger was also acknowledged for ongoing contributions to the area such as:
- Participating in DeWitt Township's Clean Sweep Program and Clinton County Clean Community events.
- Offering 24-hour access to free recycling services. More than 800 tons of material was recycled in DeWitt Township in 2010 thanks to the partnership between area residents and the Granger recycling center.
- Developing and donating Granger Meadows Park, a 75-acre agrarian-style recreational area designed for year-round use. The park features a walking trail, basketball courts, softball field, playground equipment, an inline skating rink and picnic pavilions.
- Supporting community events such as the annual Meadows Celebration, a family-friendly free event for residents of the greater DeWitt Township area.
"Granger really set itself apart as a company," said Township Supervisor Rick Galardi, "We have learned so much from them about what it means to be a corporate citizen."
Granger is a third generation, family-owned and operated business based in DeWitt Township, Mich. Through innovation and planned growth, the small waste hauling and landfill disposal operation, started 45 years ago, has evolved into a comprehensive environmental management service firm responsible for the recovery of resources through recycling, composting, and landfill gas conversion to energy.
