DETAILS: The Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Control Program had a successful construction season, leading to a healthier environment and better infrastructure for the City of Lansing. At the conclusion of the 2010 season, the sewer separation project is now 70 percent complete.
Two of Lansing's busiest areas received sewer separation: West Saginaw Street between Westmoreland Avenue and North Chestnut Street, and South Washington Avenue between Mount Hope Avenue and Holmes Road.
Major successes in both CSO project areas included a smooth flow of traffic on roadways surrounding Ingham Regional Medical Center and Sparrow St. Lawrence campus. Despite these shifts in traffic, businesses along West Saginaw Street and South Washington Avenue were open and accessible throughout the construction season.
In addition to the CSO work, several other major projects were completed, including reconstructed and resurfaced roads, construction of sidewalks and streetscape beautification.
A presentation of the CSO Control Program and the City of Lansing's completed construction projects, as well as a preview of next year's initiatives will be presented at the media roundtable. For more information and project details, please visit www.Lansingmi.gov and www.LansingCSO.com
