LAFCU Ends the Year with a Big Check

Staff Raises more than $12,000 for Capital Area United Way

January 4, 2011

Lansing ----- 2010 was a great year for LAFCU, and it came to an ideal close in December. Employees of the Greater Lansing area credit union, which celebrates its diamond anniversary in 2011, raised and donated $12,648.63 to the Capital Area United Way.

The staff collected money, held a silent auction and raised funds all for a good cause. They also donated $5 to spin the "PA" wheel to earn paid time off, as well as opted to withhold money from their paychecks throughout the year to contribute to the donation. This isn't unusual for the staff at LAFCU; as a community-minded credit union, staff members can be found serving on local boards, participating in charity events and giving back.

"We're very proud of our staff for their dedication and generosity," said Kelli Ellsworth-Etchison, vice president of community and business development at LAFCU, "Our employees love their community, and it shows."

The goal of Capital Area United Way is to advance the common good and build better lives through work in education, income, health and basic needs. They help families become more financially stable, find food and shelter and lead healthier lives.

"This is an organization that works to make Lansing a better place to live," Ellsworth-Etchison said, "LAFCU really tries to invest in the communities we serve, so a donation to Capital Area United Way makes perfect sense."

LAFCU serves more than 50,000 members in the Greater Lansing area. Anyone who lives, worships or works in Ingham, Eaton or Clinton counties is eligible to join. They believe in community action and enrichment through investment, taking part in local organizations, education and volunteer projects.
